The Ugly Old Tree

Mabel Mabelroon was the snootiest resident in the town of Willoughby. Some folks suspected the reason Mabel was so snooty was because she'd won the Willoughby Garden Contest every year for the last 10 years and she expected that this year would be no different. But when a little boy asks Mabel why there are no trees in her garden, this sets off a chain of events that no one in the town of Willoughby could have ever expected!

A great book to share with your kids and grandkids----you'll love ..
I just finished reading The Ugly Old Tree-----you've done a great job of using an interest twist--to tell that old familiar story that love conquers all. Very endearing story of a chocolate-covered faced-- pain-in-the ass kid----bringing a snotty old woman together as friends and making both of their lives bright and cheery. I think a lot of kids and adults would love this story! This short story is again very well-written and one that is a page turning easy to read story with beautiful imagery and with a transforming arc for not only a couple of key characters but for an entire town.
 Keep writing!

They LOVED it.
June 9, 2016 Format: Paperback
I just completed reading The Ugly Old Tree with my students. They LOVED it....they were sitting on the edge of their seats through the entire book. Each day the students were so disappointed when it was time for me to stop reading! As I'm sure you can imagine, this is every teacher's dream :) This book was wonderful for making predictions AND for inferring new vocabulary. What a treasure! I can honestly say the students were very engaged the entire time the read aloud occurred. I strongly encourage this book as a class read aloud...It is truly a gem! Thank you Linda Garcia for your brilliance!

The Ugly Old Tree is a Winner! June 10, 2016 Format: Paperback A great kids' book, with plenty of action, twists and life lessons for children. Travel to the imaginary Americana town of Willoughby and meet Mabel Mabelroon, an Aunt Bee sort of spinster whose friendship with an ice cream loving boy and fervid determination to have the best garden, set off a chain of events in the small town.
